Accreditations

Accreditation by the IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) means that Radiology Regional has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to be providing quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review. IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indication that the facility has been carefully critiqued on all aspects of its operations considered relevant by medical experts in the field of MRI. IAC accreditation is widely respected within the medical community, as illustrated by the support of the national medical societies related to MRI, which include physicians, technologists and physicists. MRI accreditation is required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and in some cases by private insurers. However, patients should remain vigilant in making sure that their MRI procedures are performed within accredited facilities, because for some facilities it remains a voluntary process.

Radiology Regional is accredited in Mammography by the American College of Radiology. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

Accreditation from ICAEL (The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories).  Radiology Regional is the first imaging service in the area to have achieved this milestone, and the only imaging group to have earned accreditation in every specified area.

Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique that relies on the experience and training of both the physician and sonographer.  Their interpretive and technical abilities determine the accuracy of an echocardiograph examination.  Radiology Regional committed to this voluntary credentialing process to show their commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.  Accreditation status signifies that their facility has been reviewed by an independent agency, which recognizes the laboratory’s commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.

ICANL (Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories) has determined that Radiology Regional is one of the first nuclear and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) laboratories in the area to be so recognized for its commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.  It provides a peer review mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality nuclear cardiology and nuclear medicine diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation.  A non-profit organization, the ICANL is dedicated to ensuring quality patient care and to promoting health care.

CT scanning is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions. Accreditation by the IAC represents a “seal of approval” on which patients can rely as an indicator of consistent quality care and dedication to continuous improvement. Many factors contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on CT imaging. The training and experience of the operator performing the procedure and the interpreting physician, the type of CT equipment used, adherence to radiation dose guidelines and the quality assessment metrics each facility is required to measure, all contribute to a positive patient outcome. Accreditation by the IAC indicates that Radiology Regional has completed an intensive application and review process and is found to be in compliance with the published standards.

Radiology Regional is also the ONLY imaging facility in Lee County accredited in Cardiac CT.
