The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends annual lung cancer screening with low-dose CT scan in people who meet all of the following criteria:
- Are ages 50 to 80 years.
- Currently smoke cigarettes or quit within the past 15 years.
- Smoked the equivalent of one pack per day for 20 years.
- Show no signs or symptoms of lung cancer.
An order from your healthcare provider is also required.
The CT Lung Screening using low-dose computed tomography scan is proven to save lives. It does not require any dyes or injections, and nothing needs to be swallowed. It is the only screening currently recommended for early detection of lung cancer, and is more accurate in finding lung tumors than a traditional chest x-ray. When detected early, there are a variety of treatment options available.
