Southwest Florida’s clear choice for expert care, quality service, and advanced technology in Echocardiogram (Echo).

At Radiology Regional, echocardiography is performed by skilled cardiac sonographers using our high-frequency digital ultrasound machine.

An echocardiogram, also known as Echo, uses high-frequency ultrasound waves to create a moving picture of the heart while it is beating. It shows the size and shape of the heart, and provides images of the chambers, walls, valves, and blood vessels.

Echo provides critical information about the heart that can be invaluable in determining the next steps for treating a heart problem and is commonly used in the diagnosis ,management, and follow-up of patients with any suspected or known heart diseases.

Your doctor may recommend an echocardiogram if you have the following symptoms that may suggest cardiac disease, such as:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting
  • Unusual fatigue
  • A strong heart murmur or a change in a heart murmur

This exam is used to:

  • Detect abnormalities (including congenital heart defects) and other problems with the heart’s chambers
  • Assess any thickening of the walls or enlargement of the heart
  • Provide information on clots, infections around the valves, or tumor
  • Evaluate whether there is damage to heart muscle and weakened pumping function from a heart attack
  • Detect whether the four heart valves are opening and closing properly as the heart pumps to direct adequate blood flow in the right direction
