When it comes to annual screening for breast cancer, choose the expert care, quality service, and advanced technology at Radiology Regional Women’s Imaging Centers.
Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer – there is a 98% survival rate when found at an early stage. 3D mammography has been shown in clinical studies to be more accurate than conventional mammography alone. In fact, 3D mammography increases breast cancer detection by 38%.
Using advanced 3D mammography, our radiologists can view breast tissue layer by layer, helping to see the fine details more clearly and minimizing overlapping tissue. During a 3D mammogram, multiple low-dose images known as “slices” of the breast are acquired at different angles.
Because 3D mammography helps distinguish harmless abnormalities from real cancers, it leads to fewer callbacks, or additional images, and less anxiety for women.
Starting at age 40, screening mammograms are recommended every year.
An annual screening mammogram is a low dose x-ray of each breast used to detect changes in women who have no signs or symptoms of breast cancer. It usually involves two views per breast. Mammograms make it possible to detect tumors that cannot be felt or microcalcifications (tiny deposits of calcium in the breast) that sometimes indicate the presence of breast cancer.
At Radiology Regional Women’s Imaging Centers, specially trained technologists will perform your mammogram. Our board-certified breast imaging radiologists will review the images and issue a report to your physician. At the same time, you will receive written notification of the results via mail and can access them via your Patient Portal.
Prior to your appointment
- Try to schedule your annual screening mammogram for the week after your period when your breasts are less tender and less stimulated by hormones.
- When scheduling your appointment, you will be asked a series of questions to help our team determine the best approach for you.
- If you have had prior mammograms at other facilities – even if they were years ago in another state – please let your scheduler know. We will obtain these studies so that our physicians can compare them with your new images.
- If possible, wear a comfortable two-piece outfit. We will provide you with a gown from the waist up.
- Please do not use underarm deodorant, talcum powder or cream. These may interfere with test results.
Schedule your annual mammogram appointment online anytime or call 239-936-4068 or 941-255-7945.
